Overview

Free XNA game TacticSphere brings new life into traditionaly turn based strategy games. Anyone who has ever played Final Fantasy Tactics, Heroscape, or even chess, will feel immediately at home with the object of the game, and how the game plays. What makes this Free XNA game, TacticSphere, unique against all other TBS's? It takes place ON SPHERES of hex tiles, rather than any traditional 2D map.

Spheres? WTF?

Seriously. Spheres--and this style of map is way more fun, and has much more strategic influence than what most players initially assume.

All previous TBS's (say, chess, for example) take place on either hex-tile or square-tile 2D maps. Imagine wrapping that map on an orange, and you start to get the picture. Where the former, 2D map had boundaries (you can't go off the edge of the board on chess), the latter 3D map has none (you can repeatedly circumnavigate the globe, chasing your enemies until you run them into a strategic-- rather than literal--corner).

Now, try wrapping this tradionaly 2D map around not just one orange, but several--and you start to get the big picture. TacticSphere takes place in a multi-player universe, with multiple hex-tiled spheres, each linked together by strategic choke-points, called "sphere portals", which units may pass through.

Who made this game?

TacticSphere was developed in about 9 weeks by several student game developers at the Ohio State University. The game was developed for university credit in Professor Dr. Roger Crawfis's CSE 694GP "Advanced Game Programming" course.
